Item Cyclin D1expressionamongcolorectalcancerpatients(Asian Journal of Health Sciences, 2022) Salih, Hanaa Ibrahim; Elsheikh, Mohammed Abdelgader; Idris, Alkhair Abd AlmahmoudBackground: Cyclin D1 plays a vital role in cancer cell cycle progression and it is overexpressed in manyhumancancers, includingcolorectalcancer. ThisstudyaimedtodetectcyclinD1incolorectal cancer patients and to correlate cyclin D1 expression with different pathological changes in the colorectum. Methods: Tissue microarray paraffin blocks with 48 colorectal cancer samples were retrieved from the archives of Elrahma Medical Center. Cyclin D1 was analyzed. Results: Cyclin D1 did not correlate with pathological alterations or with a particular tumor grade. Conclusion: The results indicate that cyclin D1 does not correlate with pathological alterations in colorectal cancerItem Detection of Cytological changes in buccal mucosa among Sudanese alcohol drinkers(JOURNAL OF BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH AND REVIEWS, 2024) Idris, Alkhair Abd Almahmoud; Mustafa, Mohammed Abuzied; Yousif, Hassan Moutasim; Hammad, Mohammed Aldai; Elsheikh, Mohammed AbdelgaderAim: Chronic alcohol consumption led to a number of cytological changes in the mouth including inflammatory cell, fungal infection, bacterial infection, viral infection, dyskaryo sis, and malignant changes. The study aimed to detect the cytological changes of buccal mucosa causing by alcohol consumptions. Methods: This laboratory-based study included a total number of 50 patients of alco hol consumption and 25 non-alcohol drinkers which were collected from healthy people. Samples collected were two buccal smears from the buccal mucosa of alcohol consumers, using a tongue depressor, before that washed mouth to avoid contamination of bacteria. Results: The percentage of inflammatory change in age groups 10–20 was 3%, 21–30 was 6%, 31–40 was 20%, 41–50 was 26%, and the last group 51–60 was 45%. The cytological findings showed in the study population, the normal result there was 28% but the inflammatory changes show is very significant was 60% while the infected changes and dyskaryosis were not significant was 6% for each. Conclusions: This descriptive laboratory study confirmed the effectiveness of alcohol on buccal mucosa which led to abnormality of cytological findings like inflammatory changes, infected changes, dyskaryosis, and malignant changes due to excessive alcohol intake.Item Properties of natural adsorbent prepared from two local Sudanese agricultural wastes mango seeds and date’s stones and their uses in removal of contamination from fluid nutrient(Bulletin of the National Research Centre, 2022) ElNasri, Nazar A.aziz; Wadidi, Nazar Abdallazim; Idris, Alkhair Abd Almahmoud; Woldemicheal, Saba Kidane; El Haj, Sabah Ibrahim AhmedBackground: In recent years, special attention has been focused on the use of natural adsorbents as an alternative to replace the conventional adsorbents, based on both the environmental and the economical points of view. The study aimed to produce natural absorbent (activated carbon) from two local agricultural wastes: mango seeds (MS) and date stones (DS) and their uses in removal of contamination from fluid nutrient. Chemical properties such as ash con tent, moisture content, carbon content percentage and percentage of methylene blue reduction of the two samples were investigated. Results: The results of study indicated that activated carbon produced from both MS and DS samples have the same pH value of 7 (neutral). The ash content of activated carbon prepared from mango seeds and date’s stones was 9.7 and 9.5%, respectively. Our statistical analysis showed no significant difference (p ≥ 0.05)for ash determinations, while the moisture content of (19.5 and 19.9%) was found for mango seeds and date’s stones, respectively. There was no signifi cant difference at p > 0.05 for moisture content of the two samples. A significant difference was observed in carbon contents for mango seeds (61.4%) and date’s stones (21.8%) at p ≤ 0.05). There was no significant difference at p > 0.05 for moisture content of the two samples. Statistical analysis showed significance difference (p ≤ 0.05) for carbon determination for both samples. The results also indicated that there was significant correlation between reduction in methylene blue and percentage of activated carbon. Conclusions: Activated carbon produced from MS and DS was found to be very effective in color removal and of acceptable quality in pH, carbon content, ash content, moisture content and solubility.Item The value of PAP and AgNOR techniques in identification of bacterial infections and cytomorphological changes in buccal cavity of Sudanese hookah users(Microbes and Infectious Diseases, 2022) Idris, Alkhair Abd Almahmoud; Altom, Einas Motwafig; Elsheikh, Mohammed AbdelgaderBackground: Oral cancer is considered as a major health problem in most part of the world. Many factors have been identified as important causative agents responsible for the development of oral cancerous and precancerous lesions. In Sudan, smoking of tobacco has been identified as major cause. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the value of PAP (Papanicolaou stain) and Silver stained Nucleolar Organizer Regions (AgNOR) techniques in identification of bacterial infections and changes in cells of buccal cavity among Sudanese hookah users. Methods: In the current study hundred apparently healthy people were included, Pap and AgNORs stains was used for the staining of buccal smears. Results: A total of hundred samples of buccal smears were included in this study. The age of participant ranged from 20 - 70 years. Thirty three samples (33%) had bacterial infection, one sample (1%) had Actinomyces infection, and 66 samples (66%) showed normal cells. Twelve samples (12%) had acute inflammation, 30 samples (30%) had chronic inflammation, and 58 samples showed normal cells. Samples stained with Pap stain, seven smears (7%) had inflammatory changes and 93 samples (93%) were negative. p value, and standard deviation, mean AgNORs showed 1.920_+4.50 in cases and 0.682_+1.420 in control. Conclusions: Analysis of AgNORs and Pap stain suggest that, use of hookah influences prolifrative activity in cells and also play a role in transmission of different types of microorganisms due to smoking it in the form of groups.
